Magic Mountain holds the world record for roller coasters at a single park, and the lineup is not padded: X2 is the only 5th-dimension coaster in the west, Twisted Colossus is a duelling hybrid, and Tatsu flies riders face-down over the hillside at 100 km/h. Full Throttle, Goliath and Superman: Escape from Krypton round it out.

Theming and food lag the Disney parks nearby, but nowhere else in the world offers this much track in one day.

Best time to visit
Weekdays in February to April or September; avoid summer weekends when queues and heat are brutal
Dining
Standard American quick-service; a dining pass is worthwhile for a full day
Outside food

Almost entirely outdoor and exposed on the Santa Clarita hillsides; shade and hydration matter more than rain cover, and coasters pause in high wind.
