Top 10 Fastest Roller Coasters in the World
The fastest coaster is not necessarily the most sustained ride. A launch can deliver a headline speed in seconds and spend the rest of its course slowing down; a long out-and-back may feel quick for much longer without ever leading a record table. This shortlist ranks peak speed only, then helps you read what that figure means in practice.
We use the published maximum speed in our ride catalog, sourced from RCDB or manufacturer and operator specifications. We include operating rides only and sort numerically, breaking ties by name. A former record holder that has closed belongs in the historical records, not a list meant to help plan an actual visit.
Look at the park and the ride description alongside the number: a trip built around a single launch is different from a day at a park with several major coasters. Our complete speed leaderboard also preserves closed record holders if you want to trace how the record changed.
