Tallest Roller Coaster in the World: Top 10 by Height

The tallest roller coaster in the world is Falcons Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia, at 163 m (535 ft). It opened on 31 December 2025 and took the height record alongside the speed and length records in one go.

Behind it, the answer changed twice in three years. Kingda Ka (139 m) closed in 2024 and was demolished, so the tallest coaster you can ride outside the Gulf is Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point, 128 m. Heights below are published RCDB or manufacturer figures, not estimates.

What counts as the tallest roller coaster?

Two different measurements get quoted and they rarely match. Structure height is how far the highest point of the track sits above the ground. Drop height is the vertical distance the train actually falls, which can be larger when a ride drops into a valley or a tunnel.

Falcons Flight is the clearest example: the structure is 163 m, but the ride borrows the Tuwaiq cliffs, so its total elevation change is closer to 195 m. We rank by structure height throughout, because that is the figure manufacturers publish and the one records are set against.

Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point, 128 m. It replaced Top Thrill Dragster on the same 420-foot tower, swapping the hydraulic launch for electromagnetic motors.

Behind it: Superman: Escape from Krypton at Six Flags Magic Mountain at 126 m (a reverse-freefall shuttle from 1997, now closed), Fury 325 at Carowinds at 99 m, and Millennium Force at 94 m — the ride that started the 300-foot era in 2000.

Silver Star at Europa-Park, 73 m

Tallest roller coaster in Europe

Red Force, 112 m, at Ferrari Land beside PortAventura Park. It is a separately gated park, so check which ticket you are buying.

Inside a park in our top 50, the tallest are Hyperion at Energylandia at 77 m, Shambhala at 76 m, Silver Star at Europa-Park at 73 m, and Hyperia at Thorpe Park at 71.9 m, the tallest in the UK.

Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land, 97 m

Tallest roller coaster in Asia

Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land, 97 m — also the longest full-circuit coaster ever built. Fujiyama at Fuji-Q Highland follows at 79 m, and Eejanaika at 76 m is the tallest with inversions in Japan.

Is a taller coaster a better ride?

Not reliably. Height buys one enormous drop and a long, floaty first hill; it does not buy pacing. Millennium Force and Fury 325 are ranked highly because their layouts keep the speed after the drop, while several 100-metre-plus rides are single-trick launches that are over in under 30 seconds.

If you want sustained intensity rather than one number, look at layout-driven rides instead — our best roller coasters in the world leaderboard scores them on the ride, not the spec sheet. The full height table is on tallest roller coasters in the world. If it is records you are collecting, pair this with the fastest roller coasters list and the longest roller coasters in the world.

Tallest drop towers, for comparison

Coasters are not the tallest things in a park. Giant Drop at Dreamworld drops from 119 m, AtmosFear at Liseberg from 116 m and Falcon's Fury at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay from 102 m, tilting riders face-down before release. The full list is on best drop tower rides.

Where to ride the tallest coasters

Cedar Point is the single best trip for height: Top Thrill 2, Millennium Force and Magnum XL-200 in one park. In Europe, PortAventura plus Ferrari Land covers Red Force and Shambhala on adjacent sites. Full rankings for both are on best theme parks.
